PBA ENDORSED PROGRAM AND STUDENTS
WIN 1ST PLACE AT NAHB AWARDS
March 17, 2014

The NAHB Student Chapter at State College Area High School was awarded 1st place for Outstanding Student Chapter for all participating nationwide colleges and high school programs at the 2014 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas in early February. The Building Construction Technology program is a PBA Endorsed Trade Program lead by instructor Chris Warren, PBA member and active member of the Workforce Training and Education Committee.

For more than 20 years, the NAHB Outstanding Chapter Awards have recognized the accomplishments of NAHB Student Chapters. Applicants for this award were judged in the areas of Membership, Community and Campus Engagement, HBA Involvement and Chapter Structure.

“As a local, we could not be more excited for Chris and his students and proud of what he has accomplished in his short tenure at State High,” said Dan Wise of Wise Construction. “Chris has introduced new programs that are relevant to today’s employers. Chris’ students graduate with certifications that are required and relevant in today’s environment.”

Remington Derdel, a senior at State College Area High School was also awarded as an NAHB Outstanding Student. Remington was selected for this award based on his grade point average, involvement in the student chapter and local home builders association, as well as interest in pursuing a residential building career.

“Remi has been a devoted Construction Management student in the Building Construction Technology Program since he first walked in the door. As a freshman, he was the poster child for Sustainability Learning by taking a simple Level 1 shed and adding passive and active solar power to it. He integrated all of the green building techniques to the design to mirror an NAHB Certified Home build. Remi was our treasurer for the Student Chapter and now, as a senior, has recently taken a period out of his day to be a teacher’s assistant in the lower level class. Last year, he entered the State Entrepreneurship Challenge Contest and won first place at the county level and plans to attend Penn College next year in the Construction Management program. His desire and interest in the construction field, as well as his tenacity to succeed has been a pleasure to watch over the years,“ says Warren.

Congratulations to Chris Warren, Remington Derdel and the students at State College Area High School!
